As you are a foreign student studying in America, it can be a little confusing with a new culture and language. Typically the simplest things seem be difficult to deal. Things such as car insurance will be a new challenge if you are not familiar with some rules.
1. Seek a car insurance provider, which does not penalize foreign students. Most firms will insist upon a minimal 3 years American driving experience to ask for higher coverage and lower rates. As many foreign students have no or little experience driving in the USA, they will finish disbursing more for less coverage. A few insurance firms will take into account foreign driving experience and provide lower deductibles and rates.
2. When liability is the minimal requirement by law, it is a wise idea to know how much more you will pay for the collision insurance and comprehensive. Liability will cover your property or passengers you damage in accidents, collision will cover the repairs to your vehicle crashed, even though it was your fault. Actually, comprehensive insurance will help you recover the financial losses when the vehicle is destroyed or stolen.
3. Remember the age of your car. Older cars typically are not worth insuring for liability, as you would be much better off changing the car than repairing in most cases. Newer cars must be insured for more as it is much cheaper to repair than acquire a new car. The main rule is that an auto older than 1989 must carry liability only.
